Read the chart and simulate the workout

The Planned workout chart, the summary panel, and the simulator that only exists on a template.

Written by Romain Malbreil

As soon as you drop a first element into the builder, a Planned workout section appears at the bottom. It draws the workout on the left, and on the right shows a panel summing up what your build produces.

1. The chart

Each block in the drawing matches an element of your workout, in order, with its zone colour. It is the fastest visual check: a forgotten interval or an over-long recovery shows before it reads.

Two toggles under the chart change the reading.

  • Duration or Distance: what the horizontal axis stands for.

  • Percent or Value: the vertical axis as a percentage of the reference, or in absolute value.

2. The panel on the right

This panel only shows what your workout contains, so its content changes from one workout to the next.

  • Total duration, then the breakdown by zone category, with the percentage and the time spent in each.

  • A block for the metric in use, with its average, max and min.

  • The compatibility of the workout, under Compatible with.

3. The simulator, on a workout template

When you build a template, no athlete is attached to it: Nolio does not know which reference values to calculate your targets on. The panel on the right then shows a Simulator.

The Data of field picks the athlete. The fields below list the reference values your template needs, and only those: a template in pace shows the bounds of your pace zones, a template in power shows the critical power and the W' reserve.

Change a value to see what the workout would give. Nothing is saved: you are testing, not editing the athlete's profile.

📌 Good to know

The simulator does not exist on a workout placed in an athlete's calendar. There, the athlete is already known: Nolio calculates their values directly, and the panel on the right shows the summary instead of the simulator.

💡 Tip

So the check happens on the template, before you apply it. Switch from one athlete to another in Data of and make sure the paces you are asking for stay realistic for each of them: it saves you from sending a whole group a workout calibrated on one person.
