Set up a step

Duration, type, intensity targets and comment: everything a step in a structured workout carries.

Written by Romain Malbreil

A step is a block of work or recovery inside a structured workout. You add it from the builder's Add button, and it defines precisely what your athlete has to do, for how long and at what intensity.

1. The step summary

The Summary section gathers the main settings.

Duration

Set a Duration (minutes, seconds) or a Distance, depending on the sport. You can change it at any time.

Type

The Type field says what the step is: warm up, body, rest, recovery. It is there for readability.

2. Setting the intensity targets

The main target

Every step carries a main target, which is the intensity you are asking for:

  • a heart rate zone;

  • a power zone;

  • a pace zone;

  • a specific metric;

  • or an RPE.

Adding another target

You can stack one or more extra targets on the same step. That is how you:

  • combine power and cadence;

  • pair a heart rate zone with a pace;

  • give several intensity markers on the same block.

3. Adding a comment

The Comment section is where you pass instructions: technique cues, breathing, points to watch, qualitative goals.

📌 Good to know

The comment shows up directly on your athlete's workout. Keep it for what helps during the effort, not for your own coaching notes.

👉 To let your athlete move to the next interval by hand, turn on Wait for lap button to go to next step in the step options.
