Understanding the calendar

Written by Romain Malbreil

The calendar is the heart of Nolio: it's where you plan your training, see what has been completed, and adjust your schedule day to day. This page shows you how to:

  • understand the difference between the planned and completed calendars;

  • discover the event types you can add to it;

  • choose the view that best fits your routine;

  • import your workouts manually or automatically from your watch or a third-party app.

1. The two types of calendar

Nolio manages two overlaid calendars. You can display one, the other, or both at once.

Calendar

What it's for

Planned

What you plan (upcoming): workouts you schedule, competitions, cycles, notes. This is your training plan.

Completed

What was actually done: workouts imported from your watch or an app, workouts validated manually. This is your history.

💡 Tip

Turn on both at the same time to instantly compare what was planned with what was done.

2. Event types

On the calendar (planned or completed), you can add five types of events.

Event

Use

Structured workout

A training session with defined steps, intensities and goals.

Note

A reminder or a free comment on a given day (feelings, context, weather…).

Competition

A timed goal, a key milestone in your planning (shown on the dashboard).

Cycle

A training period (build, recovery, taper…) spanning several weeks.

Form

A questionnaire to learn more about your athletes.

3. Choose the display view

3.1 By period

You can switch between different views depending on the level of detail you need.

There are 5 display modes: week, month, 3 months, year, and table.

The last mode, "table", gives you a spreadsheet-style view so you can export some data in .csv format.

3.2 By color coding

You can also change the coloring criterion for workouts to highlight the information you care about at any given moment.

Criterion

How it colors workouts

Sport

Color of the sport

Feelings

Color based on how the athlete said they felt after the workout.

Perceived effort

Color based on RPE (from light green to dark red).

Planned vs completed

Green if the planned workout was done, red if the workout wasn't in the plan.

Tags

Color of the tag applied to the workout.

Zones (heart rate, power, pace)

Shows zone colors directly, based on the time spent in each zone, on every workout.

4. Import your completed workouts

You can fill your completed calendar in two ways.

Method

When to use it

Automatic import

As soon as you've connected your watch or a third-party app to Nolio. Workouts flow into the completed calendar on their own.

Manual import

When automatic sync isn't available (incompatible watch, .fit file received by email, etc.). You upload the file to Nolio.

📌 Good to know

Watches and apps don't all have the same API. Some sync your entire history, others only a limited time range. This behavior depends on their system: Nolio adapts to it but doesn't control it.

5. Customize the default display

Your calendar's default appearance (number of visible months, RPE comparison, main sport displayed, .ics export) is set in your account settings.
