Account settings: HRV tab

Written by Romain Malbreil

HRV (Heart Rate Variability) tracking is based on analyzing the intervals between heartbeats at rest. It gives an insight into the nervous system and helps understand how the athlete is absorbing training.

In the HRV tab, you can:

  • select the measurement protocol suited to your team;

  • create or edit custom protocols (posture, duration, etc.);

1. Access the "HRV" tab

Step

Action

1

Click your avatar ➜ Settings.

2

In the Nolio section, select HRV.

2. Understanding measurement protocols

A protocol defines:

  • Posture (lying down, standing or custom).

  • Duration of each step (in seconds).

  • Exclusion windows: the first X and last X seconds ignored to stabilize the signal.

  • LF/HF threshold: the pivot value to interpret the sympathetic / parasympathetic balance.

Tip: 5 minutes lying down with a few seconds excluded at the start and end is a scientifically validated standard.

3. Default protocols

Name

Steps

Notes

Lying / Standing

5′ lying down ➜ 5′ standing

Includes the transition; informs on variability.

Nolio protocol

5′ lying down

Simple, reliable; ideal for the morning reading.

Nolio protocol (finger)

2′ lying down

Simple, fast.

Click ✔ Use this protocol to activate the one you want (only one active at a time).

4. Create a custom protocol

Click Add a protocol (blue + button).

In the window:

Name: a short title (e.g. Finger morning).
Description: purpose or equipment used.

Step:

Field

Example

Posture

Lying down; Standing; Custom

Duration

300 sec

Exclude the first X seconds

30 sec

Exclude the last X seconds

30 sec

LF/HF threshold

0.15

(Optional) Click + Add a step to chain a standing test.

Options:

Chain steps without a pause on the mobile app: continuous mode.

Clean the data before calculation: applies an algorithm to filter artifacts (outliers).

5. Edit or delete

Action

Procedure

Edit

Click ✏️ edit; adjust steps or thresholds; Save.

Delete

Click 🗑️ delete in the protocol card, then confirm.

HRV readings already recorded stay in the history even if you delete the original protocol.
